Greene County district court, week ending April 16

In Greene County district court Michael Lee Eastman, 47, of Jefferson was sentenced April 9 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for three years. He must reside in a residential treatment facility for 180 days or until he attains maximum benefits. He was fined $1,025 with a $153.75 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. Eastman also changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. He was sentenced to two years in prison on that charge; the prison term was suspended. He was fined $855 with a $128.50 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. A charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. A charge against Eastman in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia was also dismissed. He must pay $60 court costs on that charge.

Alaney Marjine Parker, 19, of Ames was sentenced to two days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty April 14 to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Parker was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. She must pay an amount not to exceed $500 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Ashley Marie Kuenster, 31, of Des Moines was sentenced to 60 days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. Court costs were $100. A hearing has been scheduled on her ability to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Joe Edward Blackmon, 44, of Scranton was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees not to exceed $600 and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Ryan Douglas Patterson, 39, of Jefferson was sentenced April 12 to 10 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of burglary- second degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for 2-5 years. He shall reside in a residential treatment facility until the maximum benefit is attained or his sentence is discharged. He is to remain in the custody of the Greene County sheriff until a bed becomes available at an appropriate facility. If he ever serves the prison sentence it will be concurrent to several other Greene County cases. Patterson was fined $1,370 with a $205.25 surcharge. A hearing will be held on his ability to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs.

As part of a plea agreement, charges against Patters of burglary- third degree, four separate charges of violation of a protective order, and one charge of assault were dismissed, with court costs assessed to the state. (Sentencing: Honorable Gina C. Badding)

Kim M. Mentolaroc, 29, of Jefferson was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but four days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of two days of the jail time. Mentolaroc was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees not to exceed $900 and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of a dangerous weapon while under the influence was dismissed. Shon Renae Blake, 56, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. Blake was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. She must pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees not to exceed $750. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Edward Lee Goff, 19, of Jefferson, criminal mischief- third degree, and trespassing causing injury or damage exceeding $300; and Eric Christopher Rosenow, 37, of Jefferson, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense. Trial dates were set for June 15 in each case.

Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Elizabeth Danail Nicole Ficken, 36, of Centerville has been charged with burglary- third degree, theft- second degree, and criminal mischief- third degree. The warrant was issued June 17, 2020, and returned April 16.

A case was initiated April 12 against Candice Marie Ortiz, 33, of Grand Junction on a charge of burglary- first degree.
